Even as case numbers increase daily in Trinidad and Tobago, there is an urgent and unceasing desire by many, for the return to some semblance of normalcy. On Tuesday, National Carnival Commission Chairman, Winston ’Gypsy’ Peters told Ebuzztt that meetings and discussions continue, but to date there is no confirmed way forward. Today, promoter, Randy Glasgow who is the CEO of Randy Glasgow Productions, says he feels artistes must be included in the dialogue.

Glasgow said he feels soca artistes, musicians, producers and writers are being left out of all conversations presently happening on the future staging of the festival. ”We urge the NCC and Ministry of Tourism Culture and The Arts to immediately reach out to our talented sisters and brothers. Our Soca artistes and musicians are hurting immensely and sadly, they are left in a corner to ponder and figure out the way forward without any real support or consultation to help them take care of their families and themselves,” he said.

Soca artistes need to form a collective. Or be a sub-set of TUCO. But any advocate voice speaking on behalf of soca artistes must be a united, strong and intelligent one. Individual voices get nowhere, and the policy makers (read: government) have already played their hand by engaging with associations and collective organisations across all industries. Get that collective formation happening soon to make an impact.
