That’s probably the easiest way to describe the talented entertainer, Bunji Garlin. The East Trinidad native, who started singing what was coined, Ragga Soca in the 90’s, has certainly built quite a name and reputation for himself, not just in T&T and the Caribbean, but around the world.
Bunji Garlin has an exceptional freestyle skill that only few T&T acts can boast of. Many would agree that he is yet to be challenged and beaten by anyone of his compatriots in the musical arena but even so, the humble heavyweight is not one to boast. Ten years ago, Garlin fell in love and wed fellow entertainer, Fay-Ann Lyons and together they have one daughter. Their life together, while often placed in the public domain out of sheer inquisitiveness by fans, has, for the most part, remained positively respected.
As a musician, Bunji is revered for his ability to bring energy, rhythm and vibe to the arena, while remaining true to the essence of his humble beginnings in the ragga soca domain. Despite being chastised when he started his career, for leaning more toward dancehall music, Garlin has shown his detractors that he is quite capable of singing harmoniously to the beat of soca music. Songs like “Carnival Tabanca,” and “Redlight District” have demonstrated just that, but he never denies his truth – he is and will always be, a Ragga Soca star.
In 2012, Bunji’s rise to international appreciation came with the release of his Carnival single, “Differentology”. There were projects in the works involving his other single, “Tun Up” but it was Differentology that would, in 2013, essentially win him his first Soul Train Music Award in the category of Best International Performance. Another single, “Brrt” is featured on the Grand Theft Auto IV soundtrack – something Caribbean gamers would appreciate.
With 11 albums to his name and countless singles, among them the 2015 collaborative track, “The Message” with the son of Bob Marley – Damian Junior Gong Marley, Bunji shows no sign of slowing down. Ahead of Carnival 2017 in Trinidad and Tobago, Bunji has unleashed, “Big Bad Soca”, “New York,” “Turn Up”, “One More Week”, “No Gal”, “Reloaded” on the Stag Riddim and “Road Bunx” produced by Stadic Music.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row bg_type=”bg_color” css=”.vc_custom_1484622923304{margin-top: 20px !important;padding-right: 20px !important;padding-left: 20px !important;background-color: #8224e3 !important;}” bg_color_value=”#624bc7″][vc_column width=”2/3″][vc_column_text]
