Today is Election Day in the United States and believe it or not, Barbados born singer and entrepreneur, Rihanna is making a hell of a lot of noise.
The mother of two boys, RZA and Riot made a bold post on her social media platform on Monday, suggesting that her fans should vote for the democratic nominee. She shared a video with the words, “POV me trying to sneak into the polls with mu son’s passport #votcauseicant.” Beneath the video she wrote, “when protecting pu$$I*s and firing pu$$I*s can happen all in one vote. #votecauseicant #TanSuitSeason. The latter hashtag references the colour suit worn by the democratic nominee in August when she boldly embodied Barack Obama’s controversial beige style.
Rihanna has been living in the United States since 2005 but remains a citizen of Barbados. Her expression of being ineligible to vote in the US Presidential elections has since sparked debate and ongoing banter on the singer’s Instagram account. “Wanting to secure the border is akin to shutting the door to your home. It’s not even a locked door, it’s simply shut. All you gotta do is open it & walk in. There is a right & a wrong way to come inside. The people who are against having a secure border are essentially saying it’s okay to break a window & enter in that way,” wrote one person, adding, “ I’m sorry this is such a foreign concept for so many but it really stems from a lack of education. America is the land of the free, & that is still true. “enter ye your huddled masses” is proof that the invitation still stands, all we ask is that you use the damn door. Why are so many against that? Y’all wildin. This is exactly why celebrities shouldn’t be posting their political opinions. How’re you gonna misguide your fans? Stick to music sis.“ Rihanna retorted, “Where were you in Jan 6 sis? Stick to your discounted crotch. We out here fighting for its rights!”
Beneath other contrary posts, Rihanna lashed back fiercely, referring to some people as ‘illiterates’“Shut up Karen,”she wrote beneath a post that read, “Illegal voting is a crime. Maybe she should be arrested for trying.” A comment that spoke on the issue of illegal immigrants, deportations, abortions and foreign conflicts, saw Rihanna respond with, “you’re f*cked! and so is the America you dream of. Hope you don’t have to find out the hard way.”
Rihanna pays taxes as a resident of the United States however without US citizenship, she is unable to cast her vote. Her sons, RZA and Riot, along with their father, A$AP Rocky, are US citizens.

On Thursday, the CEO of TikTok, Shou Zi Chew appeared before US Congress. Prior to his appearance, the Chinese government said it would strongly oppose any forced sale of the high-impact social media company.
Commerce Ministry spokeswoman Shu Jueting said forcing a sale of TikTok would seriously damage the confidence of investors from all over the world, including China, to invest in the United States.
President Joe Biden’s administration recently applied pressure to TikTok’s Beijing-based owner, ByteDance, to sell the company. Lawmakers in Washington have argued that TikTok’s unclear algorithms could be used to promote pro-Beijing messaging to millions of users, and have voiced concerns that TikTok’s ownership makes it easy for the company to turn over user data to the Chinese government. Because a sale of the company would involve technology export issues, it would need the approval of the Chinese government and compliance with Chinese law, Shu said. “The Chinese government will make a decision in accordance with the law,” she said.
According to ByteDance, 60 percent of TikTok’s shares are owned by large international investors and the other 40 percent are owned by the company’s founders and employees. Members of Congress on Thursday made the argument that China’s official resistance was an indication that the Chinese Communist Party owns the company, which TikTok has repeatedly denied.
Around the world, including in the Caribbean region, TikTok influencer marketing has take off, with many major brands utilizing personal user generated content to promote their brands and products.
