EBUZZTTAn hour and 45 minutes. That’s the amount of attention fans of one of the most ‘followed’ Caribbean entertainers received, in Trinidad this past weekend. On Saturday, Jamaica’s Popcaan took over Trinidad. His ‘woiii oiii’ chant could be felt near and far in the lead up to the TAO concert event, which took place West side, at the O2 Park in Chaguaramas.
A mammoth crowd gathered for the event, which marked its 4th year, moving from the Queen’s Park Savannah, to the West side, Chaguaramas. A committee member of the Wasomi Promotions outfit told EBUZZTT the event saw record numbers in attendance this year. It was certainly a good look for the artistes, among them Soca artistes, the Boss Neil Iwer George, Salty, Erphaan Alves, local dancehall crowd pleasers, Lady Lava and Prince Swanny and of course, the acclaimed, Popcaan and Masicka.
Popcaan seemed to be ready to roll prior to showtime. He’d be celebrating his birthday one day later so without a doubt, the St. Thomas, Jamaica native was ready to start it right. The entertainer made his presence felt like none other, walking on stage to the delight of fans donning a black and white shirt and starting things off like only he could. Without delay, the crowd went wild and like clockwork, the screams came. A bit of obscene language uttered by the artiste in the beginning of his set, was seemingly ignored by authorities, unlike incidents featuring other entertainers and so the show went on. Popcaan was in T&T and his fans were mesmerised to say the least.
The artiste now looks toward the launch of his online shop- as he calls it- www.theunrulyshop.com. Be sure to check it out in the days ahead.
