Approx. 2 min read

Today, Soca’s biggest name, Machel Montano, celebrates another year of life. He has been on a journey of self-introspection for some time. In late 2021 and early 2022, the ‘Happiest Man Alive,’ singer traveled to India where he spent time at the Sadhguru-led Sadhanapada residential programme at the Isha Yoga Centre in the south of India. He practiced meditation and yoga, among other things, stripping himself of worldly possessions, and baring his soul to the universe. His wife Renee, in a social media post to celebrate her husband’s 48th birthday, said, “you tapped into the source and it shows.”

Montano’s wife, Renee posted this image to social media, wishing her husband a Happy Birthday.

Machel Montano’s life was celebrated in a very special way a couple months ago when his mother and former manager, Elizabeth Montano released an artist biography, detailing Montano’s career and life, over the past four decades. In September, in honor of his 40th anniversary in the soca music business, Machel and his friends in Soca, took the energy of Trinidad and Tobago and the Caribbean to Madison Square Garden, where Soca Kingdom was hosted. As she swooned over her husband, Renee made special mention of the peace Montano has undoubtedly been able to acquire in recent time. “I am so happy you are creating the life that you always yearned for,” she wrote.

Already, the soca Taipan has released new music ahead of Carnival 2023. One single in particular, “Never Again,” released in October, has been excitedly received by fans around the world. Currently, the entertainer is in New York City. He was a part of The Birthday Roast with comedian, Majah Hype which was held at The Kings Theatre in Brooklyn, on Wednesday, November 23rd. On social media, prior to his appearance at the event, Machel posted videos that saw him detailing the severity of the cold weather in New York and even attempting to get a hot Trinidad and Tobago meal around the area. There’s no doubt that even after 40 years of representing T&T and the Caribbean, Machel Montano has no plans of stopping, no plans of giving up on what he has always shared with the world- an energy like no other, a sound that will always electrified audiences and bring happy smiles to people everywhere.
