Jamaica, Jamaica…. Say what you want about Jamaicans and their flamboyance, it’s all marketable!
Proof of the marketability of all things Jamaican showed itself on Monday at rapper, Cardi B’s 29th Birthday event, dubbed a Jamaican Passa Passa birthday bash.
Celebrities from the likes of Tiffany Haddish to Taraji P Henson, model Winnie Harlow, Snoop Dogg, Lizzo, Teyana Taylor, Karrueche Tran, Chance The Rapper, Megan Thee Stallion and 2 Chainz were all in attendance, and with that came ample opportunity for Jamaica’s biggest ambassadors- the artistes and entertainers, to promote their beautiful Caribbean island.
Shenseea, Mr. Vegas, Spice and Ding Dong were there reppin’ hard for dancehall. The dress code exemplified the gritty, hardcore vibe of Jamaican culture, many showcasing, in their own way, their perception of Jamaican Passa Passa culture.

Style and fashion, a major talking point among international media, it came as no surprise that the colours of Jamaica’s reggae and dancehall expression were plastered across websites and other media platforms by Tuesday morning.
Even with lockdowns across the Caribbean region as a result of the pandemic, Jamaica’s artistes have proven their resilience. Spice, a major force in dancehall, has powerfully claimed her space on the entertainment circuit, likewise, Shenseea who was seen hobnobbing with major celebrities like Megan Thee Stallion and most recently, DJ Khaled since her apparent move to the US.
In a speech on the night of her event, Cardi B said she had been listening to Spice’s music since she was 12-years-old.
