A Theatrical Carnival Production Is Set for August 30th, Paying Tribute to the Mighty Sparrow. Blow Mano Blow is Coming.
Another band launch is coming up in T&T. Blow Mano Blow Productions is preparing to introduce its latest presentation with a production that promises to be about much more than costumes and the traditional band launch.
The band will officially unveil its 2027 Carnival presentation, “To Birdie With Love,” on Sunday, August 30th, at the Queen’s Hall Garden Theatre in St. Ann’s. The event is carded to be a tribute to the music, legacy and cultural influence of the legendary Mighty Sparrow.
At the heart of the presentation are five sections inspired by some of Sparrow’s most enduring classics: “Jean and Dinah,” “Congo Man,” “Marajhin,” “Happy School Days” and “Margarita,” and according to the organizers, Blow Mano Blow will being it all to life in a distinguishable way.
Rather than treating the launch as simply a reveal of costumes and sections, the production is being billed as a theatrical Carnival experience, with each section brought to life through a combination of storytelling, drama, music and mas. The theatrical performances have been written and directed by acclaimed T&T playwright Penelope Spencer, adding a deliberate dramatic element to the presentation.
That approach speaks to what Blow Mano Blow brings to Carnival each year: an experience designed to extend beyond the road and the costume itself, placing culture, performance and storytelling at the centre of the mas experience. For Carnival lovers, “To Birdie With Love” represents an opportunity to encounter Sparrow’s music through a different lens. His iconic compositions become the foundation for five distinct sections, with the production using theatre and live performance to create a connection between the music and the mas.
The launch will also deliver the energy expected of a Carnival event, with performances from Brass 2 The World, Rave the Band, popular soca artistes and DJs from Sweet 100.1FM.
Guests will get their first look at the official Carnival 2027 costumes, while early registration for Carnival Monday will also be available. Door prizes, giveaways, food, drinks and the atmosphere of Carnival will round out the evening. For both experienced masqueraders and those preparing to play mas for the first time, the event offers an early introduction to what Blow Mano Blow has planned for Carnival Monday, 2027. This year, Blow Mano Blow’s presentation will be more than a costume collection, but rather the showcasing of a complete Carnival experience.
With Sparrow’s music serving as its creative foundation, theatre providing the storytelling framework, live music supplying the energy and mas completing the visual experience, “To Birdie With Love” seeks to place Trinidad and Tobago’s cultural legacy firmly within the excitement of contemporary Carnival.
The launch takes place on August 30th, the day before T&T’s Independence, from 6:00 pm to midnight at the Queen’s Hall Garden Theatre, with admission priced at TT$200.

Leave No Trace: In keeping with the event’s commitment to sustainability, guests must bring home everything they arrived with, leaving the space spotless.

• A gourmet picnic basket packed with a gourmet meal and proper stemware and white dinnerware. Those who prefer not to pack their own meal may pre-order a catered picnic through the Dîner en Blanc D e- store for onsite pickup.

Stevie Wonder Joins KestheBand On Stage at DC Jazz Fest – A Big Moment for Caribbean Culture.
Internationally loved and embraced Soca band, KesTheBand delivered yet another unforgettable moment for Caribbean music last Saturday, September 5th – this time at the DC Jazz Festival. It was there, in the midst of the enjoyment that a special opportunity presented itself – Kees Dieffentaller would meet the global music icon, Stevie Wonder.
The surprise appearance marked a continuation of a weekend that placed KestheBand and Caribbean music at the center of some of the most significant cultural moments of Labour Day weekend. The set included an uptempo lyrical mashup of “I Just Called To Say I Love You” and “Savannah Grass,” which received thunderous applause from adoring fans.
Crediting his parents in an emotional social media post following their debut at DC Jazz Fest, lead singer, Kees Dieffenthaller shared that the Stevie Wonder hit “was the first record I had on repeat as a child.” The moment was a powerful one as Soca music and a Trinidad and Tobago band that dedicatedly promotes the genre along with their country, came face to face with one of the most influential global artistes in music history.
Just one night earlier, on Friday, September 4th, KesTheBand electrified Soca Fest at Brooklyn museum in New York, where the band was introduced by Mayor Zohran Kwame Mamdani. The appearance brought together Caribbean music, culture and community in one of New York’s most prominent Labor Day weekend celebrations and venues.
Kees went on to serve as an Honorary Grand Marshal of the West Indian Day Parade. The honor was shared with dancehall and reggae superstar, Buju Banton.
