T&T’s Machel Montano Receives Keys to Kingston, Jamaica as the Island Celebrates 61st Independence.

Jamaica has given Trinidad and Tobago soca icon, Machel Montano, the keys to Kingston. On the occasion of Jamaica’s 61st year of Independence, Montano was honored by Jamaica’s government at the GrandGala61 held at the Jamaica National Stadium. Trinidad and Tobago too will celebrate its 61st year of Independence this month.

The event, attended by a large number of people, saw Montano take the stage for a high energy, high impact performance. In a social media post, Machel said, “I am really proud to represent the brotherly and sisterly love between Jamaica and Trinidad and Tobago as we both celebrate 61 years of Independence.”

In expressing his gratitude to Jamaica, the King of Soca went on to highlight the UN’s observance of the International Decade for People of African Descent- the theme of which is “People of African Descent – recognition, justice and development.” He said he is humbled by the recognition as a musical ambassador and for his contribution to the development and promotion of Caribbean Culture.

In July 2022, Montano received the keys to the city of Port-of-Spain, Trinidad, on the cusp of Trinidad and Tobago’s 60th Independence celebration. The renowned soca artiste has traveled the world, sharing the music that is authentic to his homeland of Trinidad and Tobago, collaborating with countless international and regional musicians and artistes, in his personal efforts to promote not only Trinidad and Tobago but certainly the Caribbean region as well. Montano’s career began at the tender age of nine, in the year, 1982.
