There’s nothing like a good oldie to bring some spice to the arena. It’s been done before, nothing really new here, but it’s certainly worth the highlight when big names like Lord Nelson and Calypso Rose, drop those jewels, springing ’em on the beauties of today, Nailah Blackman and Patrice Roberts.

Last month, Nailah, the artiste who’s been keeping tongues talking for some time, teamed up with the globally respected Calypso Queen, Calypso Rose to unleash ‘Baila Baila’. The single is featured on Calypso Rose’s album ‘Calypso Rose and Friends.’ “I’m so happy to be a part of the Calypso Rose and Friends EP. Mama Rose is such an inspiration to me and it’s been a dream project to have her remix my first ever solo project, ‘Baila Mami,” Blackman said in the aftermath of the tune’s release in October.

Patrice shows off her vintage appeal.

Mere weeks later, another powerful female soca artiste has turned to an icon in the Calypso arena. Lord Nelson, the man who gave the world hits like, ‘Disco Daddy’ and ‘We Like It’ among countless others, is today being publicised like he hasn’t in some time, this as Patrice Roberts released their collaborative track, ‘Wha Ya Know’, after heightened pre-promotion on the weekend.

The new single offers a vintage reminder of what the Carnival experience of years gone by, offered patrons. The song highlights the difference in the feting culture of the past as compared to the ‘posing’ culture adopted to a great degree in T&T, today.

Check out the new single and let us know what you think!

Nineteen-year-old Jamaican reggae artist, Koffee has been nominated by the Grammy nomination committee for her first Grammy Award in the Best Reggae Album category. It’s the first nomination for the Spanish Town native who is the youngest solo reggae act to have gotten a nomination in the category.

Koffee is going head to head with Julian Marley with “As I Am,” Sly & Robbie & Roots Radics with “The Final Battle” and Third World with “More Work To Be Done” which was produced by Damian Marley.

This is Koffee’s first nomination for a Grammy Award. The EP was also her debut.

The young entertainer released her debut EP, ‘Rapture’ in March this year. She appeared at major concerts which featured Buju Banton and other prominent acts, in the aftermath of the EP’s release, promoting her music and offering fans, especially in the Caribbean, a better opportunity to feel her vibe. In Trinidad in April, when Buju headlined the I Am Legend concert, Koffee was added to the cast much to the anticipation of her younger fan base. Her momentum never slowed and she never disappointed. Fast forward to November and the young, positive influencer is showing signs of musical greatness for many years to come.

Other Jamaican entertainers who have enjoyed Grammy Award success are Buju Banton, Beenie Man, Shaggy, Damian Marley, Jimmy Cliff and Burning Spear, among others.

The 62nd Annual Grammy Awards ceremony is scheduled for January 26, 2020, at Staples Center in Los Angeles.
