The entertainment industry has tremendous impact believe it or not, so when a promoter who has created sold out annual events suddenly cancels another sold out show, interest piques. Radio personality and Chinatown event promoter, Ryan Shing Hon has cancelled ChinaTown 2022. The already sold out event was set for Sunday, October 23rd.

Refunds to ticket holders already announced to begin on October 25th through November 1st to those who return their tickets to locations where purchased, Shing Hon announced boldy that he must practice that which he preaches. “With the unrest that has permeated the soil of our country reaching its pinnacle, we cannot in good conscience, seek a profit at this time,” Shing Hon said. He issued a statement on the decision on Friday explaining that Chinatown would now become an NGO.

Chinatown has, for years, been an anticipated event on the annual event calendar in Trinidad and Tobago. Artistes have used the Chinatown stage to propel their careers time and time again, many selling their Soca contributions for the upcoming Carnival season, to excited revelers, on that said stage.
