Diligent and focused, Trinidad and Tobago’s Jabari Bowman’s taking nothing for granted. He says he isn’t bent on attempting to convert anyone but simply wants others to know there are other options. “I just want to show them all that there is another way,” he said. Asked whether he would collaborate with an artist like the very popular, Prince Swanny, Jabari said he would have no issue with that whatsoever. “I wouldn’t mind. The thing is, Jaron Nurse does it already. He’s in it. I just feel like it does not have to have division. We can all work together. I respect their work and I would love it if they would respect my work as well. This is not just to make the music. It’s to impact his life and the lives of his audience. It could make zero dollars, or a million dollars- I don’t care. Once it actually sits well with somebody and changes something in somebody’s soul, I would be satisfied,” he said.

Most recently, Jabari released a single with a young artist by the name of Abigail Roberts, called “Deep and Wide,” which is available on all streaming and download services. “I’m currently working on two new riddims to release by August,” he told us. These days, Jabari says he’s listening to a lot of the music coming out of the local market. “There are a lot of great local artistes out there- names like Farenite, Jovi Ton who crossed over from the Zess movement to gospel, and Jaron Nurse- my ears are just really open to the local scene right now because they are all really producing really good productions,” he said.

Outside of music production, the 24-year-old is a professional graphic designer. “I work with a small company but that skill also forms part of my company. I like to get my hands dirty with every aspect of the business – when it comes to the promotions, marketing, graphics and the music, I try to teach myself every aspect of the business,” he said. Jabari currently does production work- beat making, producing, recording, mixing and mastering and designing the majority of his artwork and he says he recently started doing lyric videos, which he plans on furthering in a bid to maintain a high standard on anything that comes out of JSB Productions… And, if you think that’s it, think again. When Jabari isn’t hard at work with his business, he picks up duty with the band Lujoe and the Gifted. “The band is currently Trinidad’s only boy band. I’m their samples guy and keyboardist,” he confirmed, telling us that he’s been a part of the band for just about two years and it’s been really great so far. “We’ve put a lot of things on pause because of the Covid situation so we’ve all been doing our own thing, but we are still a band and we’ve been releasing content as it comes. In time to come when things open back up, we have a lot more content to come out with,” he assured.

Amid all that’s facing his peers these days, with lockdown measures still in place in Trinidad and Tobago, Jabari says he hopes his peers understand that they should not be discouraged. “We’re living in a very difficult time right now but these challenges will make us all stronger. Don’t let anyone tell you that you can’t. Read a lot and remember YouTube is your friend.”
