This multi-time, Road March, Soca Monarch and Groovy Soca Monarch King of Trinidad and Tobago, has been a part of the soca industry for more than a decade, having been a frontline singer with the now defunct, Traffic, before stepping out on his own and forming the band he coined,“YOU”.
Well travelled and certainly an artiste with tremendous stage experience, Shurwayne has proven his worth as an entertainer, delivering countless Carnival hits. Even outside of the carnival season in Trinidad and Tobago he unleashes songs that reflect his ability to go against the norm, collaborating with Jamaican entertainers and often time, showing the world that he is more than just a soca artiste.
Songs like “De Band Coming,” “Dead or Alive”, and “Open De Gate” will forever be reminders of a time when Carnival in Trinidad and Tobago was an expression of true freedom, wild abandon and excitement. Winchester’s Groovy anthems, songs like, “Come Beta” with Destra Garcia, “Alequa”, “Take Your Time”, “Carnival Please Stay,” “Wine On It” and the countless other sexy soca tracks, show the artiste’s versatility and his true vocal range.
Shurwayne Winchester has been a consistent force on the music landscape in Trinidad and Tobago and the Caribbean. He has performed on numerous stages and even opened for international recording artiste, John Legend in 2009 in Trinidad. Over the years, his catalogue of music has proven vast and varied, offering a little something for every occasion, even Christmas in the islands. A true patriot, Shurwayne has delivered nation building songs and ballads that speak of the beauty that exists in the land of his birth.
Now somewhat of an event promoter, Winchester has added two carnival events to the Trinidad and Tobago carnival calendar. His fetes- hosted on each of the islands, have received rave reviews to date and will likely expand to include much more, in the future. Shurwayne Winchester is certainly a living soca icon.
