Buzz Heightens Ahead of IslandBeats Super Concert. CARIFESTA Heats Up.

Trinidad and Tobago is all the rave these days, this as the CARIFESTA XIV is being staged across the twin island Republic. People from around the Caribbean and even internationally are in T&T, experiencing the cultural experience, which kicked off on August 16th and ends on August 25th.

A number of free public events are being staged, including Caribbean film screenings and cultural symposiums. The most anticipated event however is the Island Beats Super Concert, which takes place on Saturday at the Queen’s Park Savannah. The mega concert will be headlined by Grammy Award winner, Shaggy and the King of Soca himself, Machel Montano. The iconic Calypso Rose, Guadeloupe’s Kassav and three time International Soca Monarch King, Voice are also in the lineup.

The Island Beats Concert is the only paid event on the Carifesta itinerary but with a cast that’s jam packed with unmatchable talent, many are anticipating this showcase of true Caribbean sweetness. Tickets for the IslandBeats super concert start at $300 with Platinum VIP deck tickets being sold for $1000 at NLCB outlets across the country.

Shaggy has not performed in Trinidad and Tobago in a number of years. His performance is highly anticipated and culture lovers are eagerly awaiting performances by Kassav and Calypso Rose and the other amazing Caribbean cultural ambassadors on the cast. Get your tickets now.

Machel Rubs Shoulders with International Celebs. Fans Defend Him.

Damned if you do, damned if you don’t. One radio personality made a point on Wednesday, of telling listeners that he felt Machel Montano was pretty much acting like a groupie when he attended Rihanna’s Diamond Ball last week. All this because the superstar soca artiste who has collaborated with the likes of Doug E Fresh, Ashanti and Shaggy, had taken and posted a lot of celebrity pics, post event.

Fans are however supporting the Soca Taipan, saying it’s good to see that Machel, being a Caribbean megastar, is also a fan of artistes and isn’t afraid to express that feeling. Montano met and took photos with Rihanna, Pharell, A$AP Rocky, Meek Mill and Megan the Stallion who recently signed with ROC Nation.

On the heels of that event and Montano’s social media photo explosion, came his appearance on the Girls Cruise reality TV show. Fellow soca artist, Rome is a part of the show’s full time production and showcased Trinidad and Tobago’s carnival 2019 season, to major cast members Chilli of TLC, Lil Kim, BSimone and Maya among others. The episode aired last weekend, saw appearance during by Machel and Alison Hinds during a yacht party. Montano even performed.

Erphaan Alves Will Release His ‘Proudest’ Project Tonight.

He’s ambitious! Erphaan Alves is adamant that he will take the Soca genre global. He made a point of launching the effort dubbed the No Seasons Project after Carnival 2019, promising to deliver new music regularly. Other artistes like Iwer George promised to do the same, but thus far, Nailah Blackman has been the one Soca artiste who’s delivered new music consistently.

Tonight, Erphaan Alves’ continues his commitment to delivering soca year round. A brand new single and video will be released – another track post carnival – the young entertainer having released, “Lock On” in May this year. Erphaan says this project forms part of his soca story and effectively strengthens his mission to take the genre to global audiences.

On Instagram, Alves said the production and delivery of new Soca music post carnival, by artistes, would essentially lead to more interest by fans, more local soca events, increased market activity and essentially, increased global appeal. His launch later tonight, takes place at Buzz Bar located at One Woodbrook Place in Port-of-Spain.
