She’ll be jetting off to Hollywood Carnival this weekend. Destra Garcia has however managed to steal the spotlight as the week winds down, this as popular news and entertainment portal, Huffington Post, has featured the Queen of Bacchannal, coining her a dominating force in the realms of social media and music.
On her social media, Destra showed off the adoration one fan obviously had for her, during her recent visit to Houston.
Garcia, who recently unleashed a brand new single, called, ‘Luv With The Riddim’, gets the attention of writer Kimron Corion. In his bid to encourage more Caribbean superstars and natives in general to help control the global narrative created and distributed about their respective countries, Corion is suggesting that social media be employed more by caribbean people to share what lies in these parts. He pinpointed Garcia as a good example, saying, “Destra does a great job with social media and has built a raving community around her brand online.”
Corion even reached out to Destra. In his chat with the entertainer, the Huffington Post contributor learnt that QOB controls her social media pages. “Every tweet, mention, comment, like, retweet, and reply all come directly from The Queen of Bacchanal herself and not someone acting on her behalf like most people of her caliber do,” he wrote.
EBUZZTT spoke with Garcia. She said she does agree with Corion as it relates to the impact social media as a tool in the promotion of the Caribbean narrative, can have. She however admitted that in the Caribbean, resources are oftentimes limited, explaining:
“A lot of people try to finance their own careers so they’re not signed by labels like in the States where an investment is made in an artiste so you would have funding to handle public relations and marketing and videos etc. Maybe if there was a fund or a grant in place to help up and coming Caribbean artistes advance their careers, that would be good.”
Set to invade the Hollywood carnival scene this weekend alongside Kees and other Caribbean acts, Garcia told us she’ll be jetting off to Aruba for a performance at the Aruba Summer Festival on June 26th. The three day event will also feature Enrique Iglesias on June 25th.
There was a time when Jamaican dancehall was largely viewed as a male-dominated space. Then came Patra, a bold, distinctive voice who helped change the conversation about what a female dancehall artist could achieve.
The Jamaican entertainer rose to prominence in the late 1980s and exploded onto the international scene in the 1990s, bringing her commanding delivery and unmistakable style to audiences far beyond Jamaica.
Songs such as “Worker Man,” “Romantic Call” and “Pull Up to the Bumper” introduced Patra to a global audience and helped establish her as one of the most recognizable female faces of the dancehall movement during its international expansion.
Queen of the Pack, Patra.
Her success was significant not simply because of the records she sold or the charts she reached. Patra was part of a generation of Caribbean artists proving that music born in Jamaica could compete for attention on the world’s biggest stages.
She also helped create a path for the many female dancehall artists who followed, demonstrating that women could command the same attention, confidence and cultural influence in a genre traditionally dominated by men.
Now, decades after her breakthrough, Patra is receiving her flowers.
The Caribbean Music Awards will honor the dancehall veteran with a special recognition at this year’s ceremony in Trinidad, alongside fellow Caribbean music legends Shyne, Calypso Rose and Alan Cavé.
For Patra, the honor represents more than a career milestone. It is recognition of a woman who helped carry the sound and spirit of Jamaican dancehall to the world—and in doing so, became part of Caribbean music history.

The move to Trinidad & Tobago marks the beginning of an exciting new chapter for the Caribbean Music Awards, while honoring the city where it all began. New York was the ideal birthplace for the Awards, home to one of the world’s largest and most influential Caribbean diaspora communities. It was there that the Caribbean Music Awards established its identity, built its audience, and proved there was a global appetite for a world-class celebration dedicated solely to Caribbean music and culture.

Over the past three years, Brooklyn’s iconic Kings Theatre became more than just the home of the Caribbean Music Awards. It became the launchpad for a movement that united artists, industry leaders, fans, and cultures from across the Caribbean and beyond, under one roof. The energy, ambition, entrepreneurial spirit, and relentless hustle that define New York City helped shape the DNA of the Caribbean Music Awards, and that spirit will remain embedded in the brand no matter where it travels.
Now, with a strong foundation established, the Caribbean Music Awards begins the next phase of its evolution by bringing the celebration directly to the Caribbean. As the inaugural host destination for the Caribbean Music Awards Elite Weekend Experience, Trinidad & Tobago sets the stage for a long-term vision that will see the Awards partner with tourism boards and host destinations to spotlight a different Caribbean nation in future years. By rotating throughout the region, the Caribbean Music Awards aims to celebrate each destination’s unique culture, support tourism, create economic impact, and further strengthen the Caribbean’s creative economy while continuing to unite the global diaspora through music.
