A warrior spirit he is, and on Saturday night in Trinidad, Miguel Collins, best known around the world as Sizzla Kalonji, sent shockwaves through the Caribbean island as he condemned, without apology, acts deemed ungodly and satanic- homosexuality, murder and child abuse, chief among them.

On Friday, outside of the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Port-of-Spain, Sizzla had a moment with Gramps and Peetah Morgan of Morgan Heritage.
Sizzla landed in Trinidad on Thursday. His mission was undoubtedly clear. He told fans at the Hasely Crawford Training Grounds at the Redemption 3 concert event on Sunday morning that the air ‘hotness’ as he referred to the stewardess on his flight, had given him a newspaper to read and what he saw, as he flipped through the pages, horrified him.
Admitting that the world at large is in a chaotic state, the ‘Praise Ye Jah’ singer said Trinidad and Tobago is too much of a beautiful country to be spoilt by such acts of hate. ‘Ah just people ah fire gunshot and kill people, and if yuh have de power to do that, you have the power to unite and educate de youths dem,” said the concious music defender. His words seemed to come from a higher place and with each note struck and each song delivered in the minutes that rolled on, Kalonji would educate the people of T&T who had gathered, filling their minds with positive energy and speaking strength into their consciousness.
A repertoire of music that spanned numerous years sent eager fans of the Jamaican reggae/dancehall act into a frenzy of excitement, this after Sanchez, Morgan Heritage and Cocoa Tea- fellow Jamaican reggae heavyweights had performed and exited the stage. For Sizzla, this trip, this show, this night, was more than a performance that would end with him receiving payment. This engagement in Trinidad on May 28th, was God’s mission for him, a mission that he could not shy away from.
Calling on the people of T&T to unite for the greater good of the country and fearlessly and relentless chase away and ‘bun out’ all things considered biblically an abomination, Kalonji sought to plant a seed of righteousness and redemption in the minds and hearts of his Trinidad based fans. In the crowd, most stood in awe, taking in every word and agreeing heartily with all that was being said. Homosexuality was a key target of the ‘Kings of the Earth’ crooner. Repeatedly, he said acts of lesbianism and homosexuality could and should not be condoned in T&T or anywhere else in the world. It wasn’t the first time that Sizzla had made this conviction and it will by no means, be the last.
Certainly a crowd favourite at the Redemption concert event, Kalonji’s stage show met every possible expectation and then some, and despite an insinuation by Coco Tea that time was running out, prior to Sizzla’s introduction to the stage at around 2am, Kalonji gave a superb performance befitting of a true reggae warrior. He called on black people to learn the original African languages and reminded them of their ancestry. He even spoke on current trade and immigration tension between Trinidad and Tobago and Jamaica, saying it had to stop and above it all, Kalonji called for the murders and violence to stop.
The Redemption concert, having promoted peace, love, unity and respect over the past three years, has certainly proven that there is tremendous need for music that holds positive messages, to be shared in every corner of the planet for the liberation and unification of the human race.
