Even if Bunji Garlin, Lyrikal, Voice, Jaiga, 5 Star Akil and Salty hadn’t touched the mic at Jam Naked this morning, the fete would’ve been the most epic experience for most, for the entire Carnival 2016 season.

We had heard that Jam Naked hosted at the O2 Park in Chaguaramas was “the”fete no one should miss but little did the EBUZZTT team realize that this gathering of young and 90’s branded fetters would be the most exhilarating and for some, nostalgic fete for carnival.

Fetters had the time of their lives at Jam Naked 2016.

Dubbed Jam Nation, the O2 Park was converted into an arena of non stop vibes and a soaking good time! From 3am and possibly before, fetters intent on having the time of their lives arrived in their numbers. Maxi taxi loads of them came, some scantily clad in bikini bottoms but all wearing comfortable footwear, perfect for the jammin’ that would come. Coolers in tow, they entered the venue, filling up every possible space in little time. Tickets being scalped on the outside of the venue were going for as much as $1200TTD- this of course after they had only cost $350 when they’d initially hit the market. It was the hottest ticket on Sunday morning and observation would prove that those who took bait really didn’t care how much they had to spend to get in on the action. They simply wanted to be there!

A host of Trini celebs and socialites were present, among them Sixty Six Entertainment’s Rondell, Barber Boy Dev, Athaliah Samuel, Samantha Callendar and of course the artistes themselves who eventually tore things to pieces when show time came. Bunji Garlin was first to perform and without hesitation the Viking of Soca, wearing three quarter jeans and a black t shirt, accessorized with a white t-shirt wrapped around his head, immediately sent the massive crowd into a frenzy of excitement. Big Fete flags began to move and like a tidal wave, hands were flung into the air. His hits were absorbed, chief among them, Differentology- the 2014 hit that won Garlin his very first Soul Train award. Later, Jaiga, Lyrikal, Voice- a true soca phenomenon in 2016, 5 Star Akil and Salty, would perform for the crowd, each performance going down awesomely and truly enjoyed by the fetters.

When it came to the DJ sets, the cast of DJ’s executed pretty well, mixing the Soca music between new age hits and those calypso classics every real carnival fetter ought to know. Besides a few DJs who seemed bent on showing off their extensive Machel Montano catalogue, there was a never ending sense of carnival thrill in the air, provided by the music specialists for the most part, and when the water came on just before 6am, there could only be more vibes!

EBUZZTT gives Jam Naked a perfect 10 for delivering a REAL carnival fete amid much talk of the “stushness” that has taken over in recent years. Not a single incident was reported inside the venue and despite quite a bit of traffic to exit the Chaguaramas area, Jam Naked gave carnival and soca lovers, a party they’ll remember and talk about for the entire year, until it rolls over again in 2017.

Watson’s legacy in the event landscape in Trinidad and Tobago stands as one rooted in the philosophy of delivering value to patrons, something that was the benchmark of every ‘I Am Legend’ concert in T&T and certainly countless other events hosted across the region and internationally.

Destra Delivers Powerfully at Reflections.

“If this sharing that I’m doing touches anyone, I’m truly grateful. None of us are perfect. Some days you’ll feel good, some days you won’t, but it’s all part of the journey. Sometimes what you’re looking for is right on the horizon, and the moment you give up, you miss it. If my testimony makes anyone feel something, then my work here is done.” – DESTRA GARCIA

Trinidad and Tobago received a musical showcase of spiritual awakening yet again this past Saturday, at Destra’s ‘Reflections: Sound. Spirit. Surrender.” The event took place at Queen’s Hall, St. Ann’s and proved to be a truly inspiring and uplifting musical experience.

From the onset, the show set a standard that fans of good music with powerful lyrics, would rave about for weeks. David Rudder – a cultural icon of Calypso music out of Trinidad and Tobago, welcomed the audience as he hit the stage first delivering the very fitting, ‘High Mas.’ It was a powerful blessing no doubt – something that would lead into a seamless spiritual production. He was subsequently joined on stage by Destra, something that created a full-circle moment that drew immediate emotion from the audience.

Known for her unmistakeable vocal ability, Destra took her audience on a carefully curated musical journey, opening her set with Free Again before transitioning into slowed-down, soul-stirring renditions of some of her most beloved songs, including Love Somebody and Fly and with each performance, she revealed a different layer of her artistry, offering vulnerability, reflection, and strength.

One of the night’s most touching highlights came as Garcia shared the stage with her daughter, Xaiya, for a heartfelt duet of The Prayer. Beginning at the piano, Xaiya gently set the tone before joining her mother in song, creating an intimate moment that resonated deeply with the audience.

The production, which was creatively directed by Zara Bartels and Isoke Edwards, also showcased the incredible talent of father and son pan duo Martin and De’jean Cain as well as the Maria Regina Grade School and St. Joseph’s Convent Port- of- Spain choirs, whose vibrant and polished performances brought a refreshing, youthful energy to the stage. Gospel artiste, Nisa joined Garcia for a powerful duet of Bridge Over Troubled Water. She also performed her original composition Make Me Over, adding another layer of spiritual depth to the evening.

As the show built toward its finale, Garcia delivered a commanding rendition of Ella Andall’s Bring Down the Power, followed by classic hymns including A Little More Oil in My Lamp. This climactic segment was elevated by the presence of traditional belle dancers and African drummers, creating a rich, cultural fusion that brought the audience to its feet. Beyond the performances, the overall production, brought to life through Bridgette Wilson’s choreography and Atiba Borde’s costuming, stood out for its seamless execution, immersive ambience, and thoughtful storytelling, reinforcing Reflections as more than just a concert, but a transformative experience.
