Kees has always been one of Soca music’s most loved entertainers. His success in the Groovy category of the International Soca Monarch competition with the hit single, “Wotless” some years ago, pretty much cemented his name among the big guns in the arena. Fast Forward to 2019 and he’s proving that he’s a mainstay to the season of revelry in Trinidad and Tobago. Carnival 2019 is here and Kees and his band are present! “Savannah Grass”- his hit for the season, is also proving a force, as many argue it’s the perfect Road March anthem, despite its less exhaustive tempo.

Each year, the Road March race heats up and usually there are just a few contenders. Many DJs often make the call pretty early on to tell the truth, and when masqueraders hit the streets, they aren’t left with much options when it comes to the music that’s played for them to jump up to.

Machel Montano is the Reigning Road March champion. In 2019, the soca heavyweight who recently delivered a 20 track album called G.O.A.T, has released at least three Road March contenders, among them a hit called “Famalaay” with Bunji Garlin and Skinny Fabulous. The song, though collaborated on with a St. Vincent national, is eligible to be registered for the Road March race, however Skinny Fabulous will not be credited, should it win the Road March in T&T.

In an interview after his performance at UWI fete on the weekend, Kees told social media influencer and photographer, David Wears that he hopes the people are heard loud and clear in 2019. He even suggested that a separate category be considered for the “street” as this is the area where masqueraders often get to hear all the songs they love and possibly enjoy themselves most during the two day parade.
