While the untamable frenzy in the Caribbean last weekend centered around Jamaican dancehall and reggae icon, Buju Banton’s first post-release concert, there was a lot to take in amid the excitement. Machel Montano’s ongoing love affair stuck out like a sore thumb in our minds here at Ebuzztt, and in case you haven’t realized just how smitten the Soca taipan truly is, we’re here to prove it to you!

Buju’s Long Road to Freedom concert in Jamaica on Saturday brought the best of the best in Caribbean entertainment to the Jamaica National Stadium. From Tarrus Riley to Dj Khaled, Romain Virgo, Aidonia and Beenie Man among others, Caribbean celebs showed out and Trinidad and Tobago’s Machel Montano was among them.

In the thick of the massive crowd, Machel Montano made a very public appearance with the woman he’s been linked to for some time. Reneé Butcher, a pretty low key beauty, whose simple yet charming demeanor leaves us quite intrigued, was seen wrapped in Montano’s arms, swaying to the music of the Grammy award winning artist, both, she and Montano undeniably in their comfort zone with each other.

Machel Montano, possibly in wind down mode after a very visible Carnival season in Trinidad and Tobago, once collaborated with Buju Banton. The Soca artist had remixed his single, “Make Love” with the “Rasta Got Soul” hit maker. His relationship with Butcher, while informerly confirmed, has seen them on an apparent life journey with a lot of spiritual soul searching together.

During Carnival 2019 in T&T, Butcher’s presence was seen and felt. Photos showed the couple together on Valentine’s Day, coupled up affectionately. Butcher was a part of the Carnival Mas excitement as well, taking to the streets with Montano, Ashanti and the countless other celebrities partaking in the bliss of the season. What’s not to love?

Now, here are 5 reasons we love seeing this couple together:

  • Their energy as a couple is humble, grounded and easy.
  • She’s cute!
  • She has seemingly affected Machel in a positive way. His energy as an individual seems different since she became publicly announced.
  • Love WINS! At 44 years of age, we love the idea of seeing the King of Soca settle with someone truly suited to him, after all, how much longer will he subject himself to those touchy- feely females on the entertainment circuit! The time has come to just let real love WIN!

Nineteen-year-old Jamaican reggae artist, Koffee has been nominated by the Grammy nomination committee for her first Grammy Award in the Best Reggae Album category. It’s the first nomination for the Spanish Town native who is the youngest solo reggae act to have gotten a nomination in the category.

Koffee is going head to head with Julian Marley with “As I Am,” Sly & Robbie & Roots Radics with “The Final Battle” and Third World with “More Work To Be Done” which was produced by Damian Marley.

This is Koffee’s first nomination for a Grammy Award. The EP was also her debut.

The young entertainer released her debut EP, ‘Rapture’ in March this year. She appeared at major concerts which featured Buju Banton and other prominent acts, in the aftermath of the EP’s release, promoting her music and offering fans, especially in the Caribbean, a better opportunity to feel her vibe. In Trinidad in April, when Buju headlined the I Am Legend concert, Koffee was added to the cast much to the anticipation of her younger fan base. Her momentum never slowed and she never disappointed. Fast forward to November and the young, positive influencer is showing signs of musical greatness for many years to come.

Other Jamaican entertainers who have enjoyed Grammy Award success are Buju Banton, Beenie Man, Shaggy, Damian Marley, Jimmy Cliff and Burning Spear, among others.

The 62nd Annual Grammy Awards ceremony is scheduled for January 26, 2020, at Staples Center in Los Angeles.

Being incarcerated for almost 10 years, for a crime one vehemently denies committing, would change a man’s life forever. Mark Myrie, the man many know and easily refer to as Buju Banton, is yet to officially speak to any media house in the aftermath of his release from US prison. Ten months ago, Buju felt freedom once again and since that time, like a bird released from a cage, the ‘Optimistic Soul’ singer has unceasingly sung – his spirit soaring most when on stage, with mic in hand.

On the weekend, Buju and a cast of other powerful Caribbean entertainers including Bunji Garlin and Fay Ann Lyons, performed for a massive crowd at Dominica’s World Creole Festival. On the heels of that, he’s unleashed a teaser video for a brand new single with Dave Kelly, one of the most successful dancehall producers in Jamaica. Kelly is known for producing Cham’s international hit, ‘Ghetto Story,’ which was later remixed by RnB hit maker, Alicia Keys. He’s also credited as the creator of the Showtime riddim- a widely popular riddim in the Caribbean. The teaser hears Buju’s vocals behind an echoing sentiment, ‘mi no trust phone,’ something that can be easily believed, considering the fact that the artist has maintained that he was entrapped ten years ago.

The latest piece of musical work will follow four singles done by Buju since his release. ‘Pay The Price’, ‘Country for Sale’, ‘Holy Ground’ and Holy Mountain, which also features Jamaica’s Sizzla Kalonji and Mavado. The latter two singles form part of DJ Khaled’s ‘Father of Asahd’ album which was released in May this year.
