Has it been that long? Has Fay-Ann Lyons been holding out on us? The soca mom and wife recently took a selfie, showing off what appeared to be a full head of braids. Unlike her previous braided dos, the singer’s mohawk style seemed to have been traded in for the full head of cornrows.

A lot has happened in the past few months. Soca artistes have, for the most part, been laying relatively low. Apart from the random virtual concerts and spurts of throwback photos and videos, a few fan videos- the artistes have been stumped pending the reopening of borders and the lifting of restrictions, particularly in Trinidad and Tobago, where, needless to say, the majority of the world’s Soca musicians and entertainers reside.

On Saturday, Fay took the pic, rocking her braided do. She wrote, “Went outside and came back in.” It was a simple caption to a pic that gave fans the assurance that she was well, despite all that’s happening in the world. The Alvarez family has, in the past few months, welcomed a crew of pups that their followers can’t get enough of. Duke, Dembe, Donis and Duna are the squad and it seems like the Alvarez family have been busy making their home a happy place, amid the global lockdown.

Separately, the movie by Romany Malco, “Tijuana Jackson – Purpose Over Prison,” has been released. Fay and Bunji were a part of the film which, according to Malco, has risen to #5 in the top comedy movies on iTunes and @appletv! In a social media post recently, Bunji said he had a lot of fun filming the movie in LA, but warned that it’s not suitable for kids. Garlin plays the character, ‘Upgrade’ who is the best friend of Tijuana Jackson who is played by Romany Malco.

Female star power can no longer be categorised as merely sporadic, or dismissed as isolated, as this past year has seen the ladies topping the charts and holding their own alongside their male-counterparts. Among those who trod on fiercely, carrying the flag of female empowerment are Jamaican-born dancehall singer-songwriter Hoodcelebrityy and rapper Kash Doll.

On a mission to unite and entertain the world through music, the multi-talented pair have released “SO PRETTY”, a hit-bound track celebrating women’s beauty and independence worldwide. According to a media statement issued by Destine Media, the song is an anthem for women everywhere to unite with each other and embrace their differences. It is the call for women to use their power, unite with who they truly are, and liberate themselves from patriarchal standards.

Hood Celebrity

Known for her self-esteem boosting international chart topping singe, “Walking Trophy”, Hoodcelebrityy spoke on the song’s inspiration, and her collaboration with BET Award nominee for Best Female Hip Hop Artist Kash Doll, saying, “I wrote the song “So Pretty” to let women of all nationalities know that they are all beautiful. I wanted to show my appreciation for diversity and that beauty comes in all shades. I also wanted to let girls know that beauty can stem from confidence in oneself . That’s why I had to get Kash Doll on this. She exudes confidence and has such a boss mentality. Her independent mindset is inspiring,” she said.

As this tumultuous year comes to a close, let us not forget that 2020 marks the year of the 100th anniversary of the passage of the 19th Amendment, guaranteeing and protecting the woman’s constitutional right to vote. It is therefore only right to celebrate women’s independence and “SO PRETTY” does just that.

Paired with a provocative, sexy video, which premiered on Complex, “SO PRETTY” is available worldwide beginning today, on all major streaming platforms and digital outlets, and even on Hoodcelebrityy’s  official YouTube channel.

Machel Montano’s proving to be a stand up guy. You know how some companies hate giving refunds?…well, seems like the Monk and his cohorts at Tribe Carnival, understanding of the current climate, and the global economic effects of the Covid-19 pandemic, are extending an olive branch to fetters.

In a YouTube message posted last week, Machel is heard explaining why the inaugural Melee cruise, which was originally carded to sail in May 2021, has been pushed back.

He said plans are still ongoing, but explained that for those who have been strongly impacted by the Covid-19 pandemic, forcing them to reconsider sailing with the Melee family, refunds would be afforded.
