It’s been a pretty long wait for some but despite some moans and groans of restlessness and impatience, there remains a high level of excitement still, to see the world premiere of Bunji Garlin’s video for the 2013 fete anthem, Differentology. The song has been remixed by Major Lazer and has been moving up the ladder, having been listed by guardian.co.uk staff writer  as an essential Summer track of 2013. This morning, the artiste revealed that the official launch of the video will take place on Friday, May 17.

Bunji’s name has been popping up quite a lot in the past few months. He has made some very unexpected moves, both musically and personally. He has shown a softer side, jotting down his thoughts in online blogs that he owns and even making big statements in defence of his musical style, which he vowed in 2012, to continue representing despite stereotypical slander from some quarters. Through it all, the artist whose roots are embedded in Cumuto/Wallerfield, Trinidad, has delivered for his fans. The energy surrounding the Differentology video shoot was high throughout. Bunji kept his fans and friends informed, posting images of the location and even the costumes from time to time. For this reason, we feel that despite the wait, music lovers are excited for the release of the video on Friday.

Directed by Nigel Thompson, the team is assuring that the Differentology production will be, for the thousands and perhaps millions who will view it, well worth the wait.

Female star power can no longer be categorised as merely sporadic, or dismissed as isolated, as this past year has seen the ladies topping the charts and holding their own alongside their male-counterparts. Among those who trod on fiercely, carrying the flag of female empowerment are Jamaican-born dancehall singer-songwriter Hoodcelebrityy and rapper Kash Doll.

On a mission to unite and entertain the world through music, the multi-talented pair have released “SO PRETTY”, a hit-bound track celebrating women’s beauty and independence worldwide. According to a media statement issued by Destine Media, the song is an anthem for women everywhere to unite with each other and embrace their differences. It is the call for women to use their power, unite with who they truly are, and liberate themselves from patriarchal standards.

Hood Celebrity

Known for her self-esteem boosting international chart topping singe, “Walking Trophy”, Hoodcelebrityy spoke on the song’s inspiration, and her collaboration with BET Award nominee for Best Female Hip Hop Artist Kash Doll, saying, “I wrote the song “So Pretty” to let women of all nationalities know that they are all beautiful. I wanted to show my appreciation for diversity and that beauty comes in all shades. I also wanted to let girls know that beauty can stem from confidence in oneself . That’s why I had to get Kash Doll on this. She exudes confidence and has such a boss mentality. Her independent mindset is inspiring,” she said.

As this tumultuous year comes to a close, let us not forget that 2020 marks the year of the 100th anniversary of the passage of the 19th Amendment, guaranteeing and protecting the woman’s constitutional right to vote. It is therefore only right to celebrate women’s independence and “SO PRETTY” does just that.

Paired with a provocative, sexy video, which premiered on Complex, “SO PRETTY” is available worldwide beginning today, on all major streaming platforms and digital outlets, and even on Hoodcelebrityy’s  official YouTube channel.

Machel Montano’s proving to be a stand up guy. You know how some companies hate giving refunds?…well, seems like the Monk and his cohorts at Tribe Carnival, understanding of the current climate, and the global economic effects of the Covid-19 pandemic, are extending an olive branch to fetters.

In a YouTube message posted last week, Machel is heard explaining why the inaugural Melee cruise, which was originally carded to sail in May 2021, has been pushed back.

He said plans are still ongoing, but explained that for those who have been strongly impacted by the Covid-19 pandemic, forcing them to reconsider sailing with the Melee family, refunds would be afforded.
