A dynamic and trailblazing actress, Thorne’s career perfectly embodies the spirit of ‘Exploring
Horizons’ that NEDCO is celebrating this year. As one of New Hollywood’s brightest young stars, Thorne is a master of her craft. Her feature film debut, in Barry Jenkins’ Academy Award-winning, ‘If Beale Street Could Talk,’ received numerous awards, including the AFI Award “Movie of the Year,” Independent Spirit Award “Best Feature,” and NAACP Image Award “Outstanding Independent Motion Picture.”

Following her performance in ‘If Beale Street Could Talk,’ Thorne starred alongside Daniel Kaluuya and LaKeith Stanfield in Judas and the Black Messiah, which went on to be nominated for five Academy Awards. After cementing herself as a force to be reckoned with on the big screen, Dominique returned to her roots in the theater and made her Broadway debut in the critically acclaimed play, Jaja’s African Hair Braiding in 2023 and can next be seen starring in Marvel’s Ironheart, set for release on Disney+ in
2025.
