Well loved dancehall artist, Moses Davis, best known as Beenie Man, laid his mother to rest in St. Elizabeth, Jamaica, on Sunday. According to reports, the artist’s mother, 63-year-old Lilieth Sewell passed away, having suffered a brief bout of illness in September. At Sunday’s funeral, Beenie Man fainted as his mother’s coffin was being lowered into the hole.

The situation sparked a wave of concern across social media, however on Tuesday, Davis clarified that he was well despite the way things may have looked. He said the gravity of the situation had only struck him at that very moment, since he had been busy taking care of funeral arrangements prior to the burial. “My heart broke and I blacked out for a few minutes. When I revived I saw my closest friends and my family around me,” he said.

Nicki Minaj, responding to Beenie’s post funeral statement, wrote, “We love you, King. God is with you. Your mom is resting in peace.”

She was among several Caribbean and international entertainers and entertainment professionals who expressed their condolences to the dancehall artist.

Here’s the statement issued by Beenie Man.
