Everyone wants to be “Caribbean”, whether they admit it or not. Doesn’t matter what island, they yearn to rock it like we do. Caribbean energy and vibe’s been making headlines in recent days and weeks like nothing else. Drake’s new 22 track playlist as he coins it- “More Life”, “scans like 80 minutes of club music from Canada, America, the UK, the West Indies, and Africa on shuffle,” writes Pitchfork.com. Meanwhile, Trinidad and Tobago born Nicki Minaj is proving that she’s a game changer and a winning one at that.
Fay Ann’s “Break The World” made it to #3 on the Billboard Reggae Chart.
Soca heavyweight, Fay Ann Lyons may not be receiving the praise she so deserves- this after her debut album, “Break The World” stood at #3 on the Billboard Reggae Chart upon its debut. The achievement was a first for an individual artist album in the Soca genre. Despite the lack of fanfare at home in Trinidad and Tobago, the achievement was duly noted with Jamaica’s national newspaper, The Gleaner, paying pretty close attention.
Minaj meanwhile has been repping for the Caribbean the only way she seemingly knows how- by twerking her heavy butt and winning! Whether her butt antics on social media is meant to rep the region or not, she’s definitely sending a subliminal message about Caribbean women-, They WIN! On March 20th, the “Anaconda” singer surpassed the Queen of Soul, Aretha Franklin, as the female artiste with the most Billboard Hot 100 hits. She’s up to 76.
Then there’s Rihanna. What hasn’t she done? The Bajan pop princess can now add series actress to her resume. Last night Rihanna made a cameo on A&E’s Bates Motel as Marione Crane. Rihanna went live on Inatagram as she caught her debut performance on the show. It’s unclear how long she’ll be appearing.

The move to Trinidad & Tobago marks the beginning of an exciting new chapter for the Caribbean Music Awards, while honoring the city where it all began. New York was the ideal birthplace for the Awards, home to one of the world’s largest and most influential Caribbean diaspora communities. It was there that the Caribbean Music Awards established its identity, built its audience, and proved there was a global appetite for a world-class celebration dedicated solely to Caribbean music and culture.

Over the past three years, Brooklyn’s iconic Kings Theatre became more than just the home of the Caribbean Music Awards. It became the launchpad for a movement that united artists, industry leaders, fans, and cultures from across the Caribbean and beyond, under one roof. The energy, ambition, entrepreneurial spirit, and relentless hustle that define New York City helped shape the DNA of the Caribbean Music Awards, and that spirit will remain embedded in the brand no matter where it travels.
Now, with a strong foundation established, the Caribbean Music Awards begins the next phase of its evolution by bringing the celebration directly to the Caribbean. As the inaugural host destination for the Caribbean Music Awards Elite Weekend Experience, Trinidad & Tobago sets the stage for a long-term vision that will see the Awards partner with tourism boards and host destinations to spotlight a different Caribbean nation in future years. By rotating throughout the region, the Caribbean Music Awards aims to celebrate each destination’s unique culture, support tourism, create economic impact, and further strengthen the Caribbean’s creative economy while continuing to unite the global diaspora through music.

Caribbean business and music superstar, Rihanna once again reminded the world of her unmatched star power, last weekend, after making a surprise appearance at Jay-Z’s highly anticipated concert in New York, on Sunday night.
The Barbadian superstar was among a host of celebrity guests in attendance as HOV celebrated his return to the stage before a sold-out crowd. The moment quickly became one of the night’s biggest talking points, with videos and photos of Rihanna circulating rapidly across social media and entertainment platforms worldwide.
Known for commanding attention wherever she goes, Rihanna’s appearance sparked an outpouring of excitement from fans across the Caribbean, many of whom took to social media to celebrate seeing one of the region’s most successful entertainers supporting her longtime friend and mentor. The appearance also reignited conversations about the singer’s own musical future, as anticipation continues to build for her long-awaited return to music.
Although Rihanna has spent much of the past few years expanding her global business empire through Fenty Beauty, Savage X Fenty and other ventures while embracing motherhood, her every public appearance continues to generate headlines. For many fans, even a brief appearance is enough to fuel speculation about upcoming performances, collaborations or the elusive album often referred to simply as “R9.”
Jay-Z’s concert also attracted an impressive list of celebrities from the worlds of music, sports and entertainment, reinforcing the event as one of the biggest cultural moments of the summer. Rihanna’s presence, however, remained one of the standout highlights, with Caribbean fans proudly celebrating another reminder of the global influence of one of Barbados’ greatest cultural ambassadors.
While no announcement regarding new music was made, Rihanna once again demonstrated that she remains one of the entertainment industry’s most captivating figures, able to dominate headlines without even stepping up to a microphone.
