The song’s melodic appeal is just one of numerous reasons we here at Ebuzztt believe it’s transcended cultural and continental boundaries, as quickly as it has, much like Master KG’s “Jerusalema.” The song’s just got the “IT” factor on all levels.

Now, you be the judge, but here’s our overall take on why “Lighter” is the global anthem from the Caribbean in 2020.

  1. Tarrus and Shenseea sync perfectly and although the love is undeniably platonic, there’s no denying that there is true respect and heartfelt love between the artistes. Love always wins!
  2. The song is all goodness. There are no guns, no harsh sentiments, no excessive vulgarity and nothing that bashes either men or women.
  3. Shenseea’s vocals are shown off! For as long as her career has spanned – and it’s not very, very long, Shenseea’s true vocals have remained hidden. Now we know exactly what she’s capable of and we’ll only want more of this!
  4. Tarrus brings out the best in almost anything. Tarrus Riley is all love. His vibe as an artist has been a testament of his authentic personality. You just can’t help but smile when he presents himself for critique. This time around, the world is smiling extra broadly.
  5. This song remind us all, those of us who really know, what real love should feel like and how it should be expressed. For the ‘younguns’ , it may bring an awakening to the fact that real love is kind, passionate and inexhaustible.

The Caribbean community is today in uproar after one of its very comedic influencers became the centre of allegations of physical abuse as detailed by his significant other. The community is adamant that no acts of violence against women or children for that matter, will be condoned, this after the female in question broke her silence via social media, explaining that she has been the victim of traumatic attacks and even alleging that her life could have been snuffed out when her attacker allegedly drew a gun against her.

This feature deals specifically with warning signs for women as it relates to the potential of attack by their significant other. We believe it has become necessary- and it really always has been imperative that information be made available to persons should they become victims of domestic violence or any type of abuse.

Breakingthecycle.org, a website platform that aims to break the cycle of violence in relationships specifically for young people, explains that dating abuse encompasses many types of abuse, including physicalemotional, verbal, digital and sexual.  “It can be hard to tell when a behaviour crosses the line from healthy to unhealthy or abusive,” the site explains, noting that dating violence is a pattern and as such, women are encouraged to be aware of these early warning signs, and what could become a series of abusive behaviors over time.
