We’ve heard about a fair share of social media challenges. There’s been the Ice Bucket Challenge, the Kylie Jenner Challenge, the Running Man challenge, the Cinnamon challenge and so many others. Now, believe it or not, Soca and Carnival island, Trinidad and Tobago has come up with its very own challenge, entertainer Olatunji Yearwood, announcing the the start of “the Blue Soap challenge” today.
A spiraling crime rate in these parts seems to be the influence behind the effort, Yearwood initiating things with an expression of disgust for the situation in T&T- crime seemingly getting out of control on the twin island. With Republic Day set to be celebrated on Monday, September 24th, the challenge couldn’t have come at a better time.
Yearwood- a former International Soca Monarch King, is seen soaping his body with what appears to be ‘blue soap’- an item that’s supersticiously revered for removing what Trini’s refer to as ‘blight’ or bad vibes on a person. In this case, we’re left to assume that Ola wants us all to remove the ‘blight’ off of us, to ensure that the country’s nationals are all blight free in and in a better place, in the coming months. It’s not a bad idea!
