Archived: Jamaica’s Charly Black Celebrates Major Spotify Achievement

Published

on

Jamaican dancehall sensation, Charly Black who was a featured act at Machel Montano’s 2017 Machel Monday carnival event, is today celebrating after his Billboard charting single “Gyal You A Party Animal”, surpassed Spotify’s 100 plays mark.

Charly Black recently spent a few days in Trinidad for Carnival.

It’s a first for the Caribbean’s dancehall genre. Prior to this, only Bob Marley’s “Three Little Birds” with 133 million, and Shaggy’s pop single, “It Wasn’t Me” with 130 million, had crossed the 100 million mark on the streaming platform.

Charly Black told the Jamaica Star that he was at a loss for words. “I just give God thanks for all the blessings that he has bestowed on me,” said Charly. “It’s been an unbelievable journey, and it’s a wonderful feeling to know that all the hard work I put in over the years has paid off. For a dancehall record to break the 100 million plays mark is incredible and to know that it is a Charly Black record that did it first leaves me speechless.”

Think This Soca Remix’ll Be Played Post C2K18? That Caribbean Heat’s Sick.

On February 2nd, in the heat of the Carnival melee in Trinidad, Bunji Garlin and Shenseea’s remix of Garlin’s ‘Big Bad Soca’ was uploaded to YouTube. Since that time, it’s amassed close to 200,000 views. But, if you’re like us and totally missed it, we’ve gotta warn you, the Jamaican gyal’s  powerful presence may very well grab you by the nuts.

Shenseea ain’t playin’. This girl’s getting hers! A collaboration of any kind with Bunji Garlin, could only have a positive result for any Caribbean artist and for Bunji- well, truth be told, Shenseea’s what’s hot right now, so his was definitely a good move.

Check out the remix. Be sure to let us know what you think.

Jah Cure was a part of Trinidad’s recent carnival excitement.

These Jamaican reggae and dancehall artistes never cease to satisfy the yearning of their fans, do they? Their social media pages give the world some amazing insight into their lives, from what they like to eat to who they spend their most intimate moments with and so much more. Jah Cure’s one of those entertainers who’s adored for his voice but he’s so much more than an artiste. He’s a doting dad. His daughter’s got his heart, no doubt and despite the fact that he’s now divorced from her mother, Kamila McDonald, the reggae hit maker’s living up to his daughter’s expectations of him.

Pretty little Lani all masked up.

The Cure brought little Lani to Trinidad and Tobago in the past week. They were in T&T during the carnival festivities in the lead up to the little beauty’s 6th birthday. Social media posts showed the daddy -daughter duo heading back to Jamaica overnight, Jah Cure captioning one of his pics, “ We had a great time.”

The reggae crooner recently tweeted that a new music release is on the way- something called, “Risk it All”, which features Phyllisia Ross. Stay woke!
