Digicel’s making no joke. Jamaica’s carnival showed the lengths the Irish company has gone to brand itself as the ‘top dawg’ on the communications circuit in the Caribbean. From T&T to Grenada, Jamaica and wherever else, Digicel is leaving its mark.

On the weekend, a series of social media posts delivered additional ratings to the home base of artistes and superstars like Usain Bolt, Kees Dieffenthaller, Tessanne Chin, and Machel Montano who only this past carnival in T&T, signed up to be an endorsee of the brand.

In Jamaica, the artistes all seemed to have gotten the star studded treatment and every step of the way, the endorsements were pronounced by the endorsees themselves. Icing on the cake came on Sunday when the Digicel sponsored West Indies cricket team scored the ultimate win, being crowned champions of the 2016 World Twenty20 Cricket tournament. Digicel’s social media hub has since been awash with excitement and congratulatory sentiments from both cricket fans and the Digicel superstars too. T&T’s Kees Dieffenthaller, a long time Digicel poster boy, could not contain his excitement…

The fastest man on the planet, Usain Bolt, was happy to share congratulations as well.

The West Indies cricket team on Sunday became the first two-time winners of the men’s World Twenty20 and as we mentioned before, they’re sponsored by Digicel.

Machel Montano’s proving to be a stand up guy. You know how some companies hate giving refunds?…well, seems like the Monk and his cohorts at Tribe Carnival, understanding of the current climate, and the global economic effects of the Covid-19 pandemic, are extending an olive branch to fetters.

In a YouTube message posted last week, Machel is heard explaining why the inaugural Melee cruise, which was originally carded to sail in May 2021, has been pushed back.

He said plans are still ongoing, but explained that for those who have been strongly impacted by the Covid-19 pandemic, forcing them to reconsider sailing with the Melee family, refunds would be afforded.
