Teja Is The Future of Soca. Artiste Delivers Distinct Sweetness and Lyrical Ecstasy at Vale Vibe Cooler.

Fetes are dime a dozen in today’s carnival ecosystem but one thing is certain and that’s the fact that throughout this entire ‘short’ carnival season, one entertainer’s voice penetrated so distinctly, that no other could compare. On Tuesday night, at Vale Vibe’s Cooler event, held at Drew Manor in Santa Cruz, Mical Teja’s DNA and his remake of Explainer’s ‘Lorraine,’ entitled, ‘Runaway’ was all that soca lovers needed.

The event kicked off at 4pm with a set of DJs inclusive of DJ Private Ryan, Dr. Jay, Barrie Hype, Lord Hype and hostess Alicia D Duchess. The entertainment lineup included The Asylum Vikings, Olatunji and Mical Teja but it would be Teja who would essentially lift the crowd to its feet, thrilling with his ‘And we go jam till morning’ refrain. He had done quite the same at Army Fete one week earlier, and throughout the entire lead up to this time, Teja has shown just how melody, coupled with the right lyrical content, could invoke a feeling of ecstasy that stands effortlessly on its own.

Vale Vibe Cooler, an annual event that has grown in capacity over the years, saw a number of foreign visitors this time around. It almost seemed as though many had just touched down and made it their mandate to hit this event, first. Even as scores had made their way to the Queen’s Park Savannah in Port-of-Spain, for Kes the Band’s IZWE concert, Vale Vibe Cooler still managed to capture a large crowd at the Santa Cruz location.

Olatunji Yearwood, a well loved performer in the carnival, and especially so for the past two seasons, also hit the stage ahead of Bunji and Fay Ann’s performance on Tuesday night. It would however be Mical’s to- the- point engagement that would stand out at Vale Vibe this year. The event will be followed by Sunday morning’s D’ Original Vale Breakfast Party, which also takes place at Drew Manor in Santa Cruz.
