Seems like Uncle Ellis is making everyone talk again. He released a soca track- his very own, last week and immediately, the streets began buzzing. On the weekend, the talk around town was that Uncle Ellis had the ‘big tune’ ahead of Carnival 2017. Fellow entertainer, Bass, who is also off to a good start says he calls it, ‘from Independence Square to everywhere.’

Ellis first made his debut this year when the world was introduced to his unique stage rock that’s been branded ‘The Uncle Ellis Wine.” Bass who’s been a part of the entertainment industry in the Caribbean for many years, says he’s happy for Uncle Ellis, explaining that the industry has room for variety.

“In Trinidad we like to compare too much. It’s nice to see the music getting back that vibes- that fun.”

Bass' chutney soca contribution, he says, will take him to the finals of the Chutney Soca Monarch competition.

Bass’ chutney soca contribution, he says, will take him to the finals of the Chutney Soca Monarch competition.

Bass says he feels too much comparisons are made between even the big artistes like Machel Montano, Shurwayne Winchester and Bunji Garlin, saying that every entertainer has something unique to offer. “If you look at the soca music industry, from one end to the next there are varying types of artistes. Every one of these artistes stands in his own right. Bunji can’t wine like Machel Montano but at the same time, Machel can’t freestyle like Bunji and so what?!” Bass feels that supporters of the music should spend more time giving value to what every artiste who’s apart of the music industry, brings to the table.

Arguing that comparisons create problems within the business, the radio personality who commands his audience via urban frequency, Boomchampions94.1FM, said he can never be compared, arguing that he is unique and will always be known as the first person to have evolved from being an on air personality and DJ to a soca artiste. “I’m an original. I have always written my own material,” he said.

Bass recently released a Chutney Soca track called, “Push It Back”. The song, which he is certain will take him to the finals of the 2017 Chutney Soca Monarch competition, was produced by Maha Productions. “I made it to the semis of the competition in 2016 with the remix of my single, ‘Stush’ but next year, I’m going straight to the finals. I’m doing this to bring the nation together. I think that if somebody like me gets into the finals, it’ll speak volumes for unity. Music can bring us together as a people. I believe that and I will prove that.”
