The people of Trinidad and Tobago are grieving once again today, this as 22- year- old female police officer, Nayasha Joseph has been found dead. The woman’s corpse was fished out of the waters of the Gulf of Paria this afternoon. The mother of one was the cousin of soca artiste, Devon ‘Lyrikal’ Martin.
The officer’s dissappearance had been the topic of much concern in recent days. She had gone missing on Thursday, March 9th. Online, the Brooklyn based entertainer reposted an image and caption posted by urban radio station Boomchampions 94.1FM, on Tuesday, which highlighted that Crime Stoppers had offered a $25,000 reward for information that could lead police to the young woman. On his Instagram page he simply said, “Smh this is actually my cousin.”
Lyrikal is the second entertainer to be directly affected by such an act in Trinidad and Tobago this year. In February, Roy Cape lead vocalist, Dexter ‘Blaxx’ Stewart was forced to cope with the unexpected murder of his sister-in-law, 27- year- old , Jamilia DeRevenaux. She had been killed at the popular Movie Towne recreation hub by someone police believe she had a relationship with.
Separately, reggae entertainer, Brendan ‘Isasha’ Young was accosted by two men, armed with guns while leaving his house in La Horquetta, Trinidad, on Tuesday at 4pm. He was robbed of his gold chain, cash and his mobile phone. The entertainer has since said, via press statement that enough is enough and is appealing to citizens to stand up for themselves and each other, saying that the population cannot allow bandits to have everyone living in fear.
The acts come even as soca star Machel Montano, together with Sangre Grande native, Dloxx pleaded with the population to put an end to violence, throughout the Carnival 2017 season.
