With just about two weeks before the parade of the bands through the streets of Port-of-Spain and San Fernando, the reigning Road March champ, Machel Montano has unleashed a song he says is the ‘Road March.’ The new track, ‘Beat It’ was released at 6 o’clock this morning. Among the writers?… Jason ‘Shaft’ Bishop.

Montano teamed up with Joli Rouge Sound, Kubiyashi, Kitwana Israel andJason ‘Shaft’Bishop, for this single’s construction.

The song boasts rhythmic timing and melodious intonations that certainly make it perfect for a masquerader’s enjoyment. Some however say, it’s just too familiar. Montano has a way of bringing songs and the lyrics that embody them, to life when he performs them, so we expect that within the next few days, ‘Beat It’, may begin growing on many, faster than they anticipated.

There is a bit of confusion in the minds of those who believe that the Ultimate Rejects’ ‘Full Extreme’ is in the Road March race. Early on in the season, it was made abundantly clear by the group that they would not be competing against other artistes for any of the Carnival titles. They did not enter the International Soca Monarch competition and while many are rooting for the song to win the Road March title, it must be registered with TUCO by February 24th. Efforts by EBUZZTT to get confirmation on the Ultimate Rejects’ final decision, where this is concerned, proved futile this morning.
