LucratiV is ready to deliver a global sound that Soca will benefit from.

Grilled out and ready to take on the Soca world with a fiery sense of patriotism that’s admirable; when you hear the name LucratiV in five years time, he says, you’ll be very familiar. San Fernando born and bred, this young musical talent has a thirst to merge the genres of Calypso and Soca in such a way that every head turns when his music plays. He’s likely to deliver too. In fact, with some very strong connections beside him- names like Millbeatz, Keegan Taylor of Badjohn Republic and Kit Isreal, the prospects of winning in the Soca biz is very likely.

“I’m atypical, ” he said to us in an EXCLUSIVE interview. He released a song he called, “Fever” in the lead up to the Carnival 2018 season in Trinidad and Tobago. He wrote the track after a night of sheer vibes in studio with the likes of Keegan Taylor and Kit Israel. “It’s about women being the centre of carnival. The song talks about the atmosphere carnival brings and the hype and contagiousness of it. I liken the festival to fever because of the spirit and energy that’s spread throughout the country when Carnival takes over and we all know fever raises the body temperature,”  he said.

His journey in music started at the age of two, believe it or not. He’s been around music all his life and plays both the steel pan and the piano. “I won San Fest in 1996 with a composition done by my father,” he told us, revealing that his appreciation for Soca music emerged when artistes like Bunji Garlin, 3 Suns and KMC came to the fore with fused sounds of Soca and dancehall. “That’s when many youths really started to pay attention to the sound of Soca, really,” he recalled, explaining that now, with a true desire to add to what’s already been contributed by these artistes, he plans on dishing out a sound that will essentially be globally desirable. “I feel like Soca hasn’t reached its full potential yet and I know that I want to be a part of the mission to make the world look and listen,” he said.
