What a night it was for one of Soca’s favorites on Wednesday night. Farmer Nappy, the entertainer responsible for hits like, “My House”, “Big People Party” and “Chippin” among countless others, got the surprise of a lifetime when a group of his cohorts in the industry, threw him a birthday bash he certainly will never forget.
Several of Soca’s big names are in the Bahamas for the Junkanoo Carnival celebrations there. The festival kicks off tonight with a massive concert series that’ll feature Blaxx and the Roy Cape All Stars, Bunji Garlin, Fay-Ann Lyons and the Asylum Vikings, along with soca heavyweight Machel Montono and his band.
Farmer’s birthday bash was certainly an awesome start to things on the island. Several of the industry’s top names, Patrice Roberts, Blaxx, Giselle The Wassi One, Machel Montano, Ricardo Drue, Olatunji, Chinese Laundry, Teddyson John, Marvay, Soca Monarch King, Voice and the Ultimate Rejects were among those who surprised Nappy, reducing him to tears on his birth night. “Tonight was really, really special for me. Almost everybody who I would want to celebrate my birthday with is in this room right now. Over 30 years in the music business and I feel really blessed and humbled to be surrounded by my Soca family on such a memorable day. It’s always a love and I couldn’t ask for anything more,” said Farmer.
