Their song together, “D’ Journey” has been widely accepted and enjoyed, with the pair performing at several major events, including, Soca In Moka and the event, New We, recently. Matthews told EBUZZTT that the collaboration has breathed new life into Ms. Andall, something he’s truly happy to be witnessing. “The energy of the people and how they’ve receive her has made her feel better and she has gotten back that drive,” he said.

Matthews says the elder entertainer is the epitomization of the word “mother,” saying that she has treated him with care and told him stories of the past that has given him a newfound appreciation for the struggles that calypsonians have faced. “They had a lot of challenges getting their music played on radio and to think that radio was their main avenue to get their music out. Now we have so many mediums and we still get upset when we don’t get our music played. We have to focus on what we have to do and focus on our goals,” he said.

Matthews is ecstatic. He says seeing the people truly enjoying the music and its positive lyrics, is great. “It shows that we don’t have to be sexually explicit or vulgar to connect with the people. The song is a real tune and it touches them in a real way.”

My dream was to always create a song that would last a lifetime in the hearts of the people. I think I’ve gotten that song. | Devon Matthews
