Archived: Destra Restarts. Sets Perfect Tone for ‘Bacchanal’ for Years to Come.

Destra does it right. Her Festival of Bacchanal can only get better now. HERE’S WHY…

It can only get better. On Wednesday- Carnival Wednesday night in Trinidad and Tobago, the energy of Destra Garcia’s team could not be suppressed. They’d been planning for the delivery of Destra’s ‘Festival of Bakanal’ for months and even as other fetes boasted a high buzz on Wednesday, the show at O2 Park, Chaguaramas, would go on as planned.

Machel Montano was a surprise act at Festival of Bacchanal.

In 2016, Garcia was forced to cancel the event in a last minute move, however this year, it was all a go, and while the kick off seemed a bit late, with the first performer coming on after midnight, the energy would essentially build and true fans would not be deterred. David Rudder, one of the Calypso fraternity’s greatest, was the first to touch the stage and with ‘Give Praise’ making the crowd rock from side to side, the Caribbean music legend set the pace for greatness to follow. Destra was subsequently queued in by Rudder for his hit single, ‘Bachannal Lady’. She responded as only she could, walking onto the stage in a red costume, that reflected her ability to transform into a stage presence that is truly to be admired. The show would move on steadily and with each song delivered by the Laventille native, the energy of the intimate crowd, would increase.

Destra later brought on Ravi B, Shal Marshal and even made mention of fellow artiste and friend, Shurwayne Winchester during her performance of ‘Come Beta’ – a song they’d sung together. Shurwayne had been watching the show from the VIP area. Other artistes who would go on to deliver strong performances for the Queen of Bacchanal’s event were Devon Matthews, Ravi B, Shal Marshal, Nadia Batson, Alison Hinds, Denise Belfon, GBM Nutron, M1, Orlando Octave and in a surprise entry, Machel Montano. The soca king had been at Hyatt’s LIME charity event earlier, but made it his business to be at Festival of Bacchanal for the artiste many say is the female version of him.

Destra’s Festival of Bacchanal was truly a well produced show. We certainly look forward to next year’s event and encourage all carnival lovers to support it when it rolls around in 2018.
