Destra Garcia is on the mend and we’ve got the proof. On Saturday night at the Queen’s Park Savannah in Port-of-Spain, the Queen of Bacchanal showed her resilience and appreciation for what she’s still able to do, mounting the stage at the Caribbean Strong relief concert event, and making the crowd go wild.
Garcia was just one of a number of music’s best out of Trinidad and Tobago and other islands of the Caribbean, who took up their role as positive influencers, joining together as one, for the benefit of the people who’ve been devastated by the recent passage of Hurricanes in the region. The show, while a hugely remarkable effort, received an OK response from the Trinidad and Tobago public. Many had taken to social media prior to the event’s staging, arguing that victims of recent flooding in Central, Trinidad, needed help too. That was however quickly responded to by people like comedian and radio personality, Nicky Crosby who clarified that part proceeds of the event would be used to assist those at home in T&T, who needed it.
On stage on Saturday however, the vibe was great. Destra was joined in between her set by none other than Machel- Soca’s longest standing ambassador, who hugged her affectionately, and together they performed their classic Soca anthem, “Carnival”, a song that recently made internationally acclaimed producer, DJ Khaled stand in awe as the crowd at Barclays Centre in Brooklyn, sang the words in unison.
