D’Angelo however struggled with some personal demons and had been out of the spotlight for some 10 years. His style of music has since changed considerably. His music now reflects poetic depth as he touches on social issues, never for a second abandoning his true passion for the RnB genre.

In 2014, D’ Angelo together with his newly formed band, released the critically acclaimed, ‘Black Messiah’ album. The album not only broke a 14-year studio silence for the Grammy Award-winning multi-platinum singer, songwriter, and producer, but it also reaffirmed the need for raw, righteous soul music. The album landed at #1 on the Billboard R&B/Hip-Hop Albums Chart, #5 on the Top 200, and eventually earned two Grammy Awards for Best R&B Album and Best R&B Song for “Really Love” in 2016.

The Tobago Jazz experience brings Shabba Ranks, Grace Jones, Morgan Heritage, Kes the Band, Chromatics, Akinola Sennon and Lletesha Sylvester to the island this year.
